WELCOME to AFAW, Americans For A War Powers Amendment. This is a "We The People..." movement. Our argument is simple: Congress has failed to restrain the Presidential War Making Power over two hundred years of American History. It is up to We, The People to take the authority in our hands and restore the balance. Our goal is to reaffirm that Congress has the sole power to declare or initiate war by amending the Constitution with a War Powers Amendment.
Never again should any future American be called on to fight War without proper consent or knowledge of the truth. Our democracy has been a journey in perfecting freedom; We are a unique nation with a written calling, a calling established by our Founding-Fathers who wrote in our Founding-Document: "We The People, in order to form a more perfect union...." It is that journey of perfecting freedom that AFAW is all about.
We believe by amending our Constitution we will be doing exactly what the Founders intended in the Constitution when they wrote that Congress has the power to declare war. That power has been degraded and lost, and we intend to restore it.
Join this 21st century movement which bases its effort to ratify a War Powers Amendment on the Declaration of Independence, that: "...Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Government becomes destructive of those ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it....Organizing its powers in such forms, as to them seems most likely effect their safety and Happiness."
The Bush Administration's doctrine of preemptive war has put the question squarely before each and every American. AFAW's response is the War Powers Amendment.
